IUS (intrauterine system)
There are different choices of IUS available. These include Mirena, Levosert (patient leaflet), Jaydess or Kayleena.
It is more than 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. The IUS is a long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) method. It works for 3-8 years, depending on the type. This means that once it’s in place, you don’t have to think about it each day or each time you have sex.
Please note for heavy menstrual bleeding or for HRT, you need to contact your GP for a gynaecology referral if you live in South Sefton.
For more information visit NHS Contraceptive Choices, Sexwise or you can watch this video.
For information on removing the IUS.
If you are planning to make an appointment for this method, please read this leaflet first before booking your appointment.
As we do not have crèche facilities on site, we ask politely if you can arrange childcare prior to attending, or if you have to bring children, please bring someone who can watch them whilst you have your procedure.
